Black should be uniform with no streaks. Fine patterns should stay crisp, not blur together.

What this page tests

It shows how evenly your printer lays down black. Look for smooth gray steps, a uniform solid black block and crisp fine lines.

What bad results mean

Gray bands or streaks usually mean low toner, a worn drum (laser) or clogged black nozzles (inkjet). Repeating marks point to a drum or fuser roller. Blurry fine lines suggest an alignment or print head issue.

Save ink

This page uses only black, so it is a cheap test for color inkjets. Choose grayscale or black ink only in the print dialog to avoid mixing color ink.

Frequently asked questions

Does this page use color ink?

It is drawn in grayscale, but some printers mix color ink into grays. Choose Black ink only or Grayscale in the print dialog to avoid that.

Why is my solid black block uneven?

Uneven black usually means low toner, a worn drum or partly clogged nozzles. Run a cleaning cycle or replace the consumable.
